High School Summer Internship Program
Vys offers summer internships for high school students who want hands-on experience at the intersection of youth online safety, AI policy, and product design. Interns work alongside our team on real client projects, research, and public-facing materials, contributing to work that shapes how platforms, governments, and developers build for the next generation of users.
The program is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and is structured for school credit.
Why we run this program
The next generation will grow up using AI, social platforms, and connected products in ways no generation has before — and the choices being made now about how those products are designed will shape that experience. We believe young people belong in those conversations, not as case studies but as contributors with real perspective and rigor. Vys interns help shape the work itself: they leave the summer with portfolio-ready output, mentorship from senior practitioners, and a clearer sense of how policy, design, and writing translate into real-world change.
Internship tracks
Interns choose one of three areas based on their interests and strengths.
Youth Policy Research. Work on landscape analyses, regulatory tracking, and primary research into how governments and platforms are approaching youth safety online. Recent topics our team has covered include age assurance, AI companions, and age-appropriate design frameworks. Research interns help build evidence bases, synthesize findings, and contribute to briefs that inform client and public-facing work.
Product Design. Contribute to safety-by-design reviews, user experience audits, and product recommendations Vys delivers to platform clients. Interns get exposure to risk assessment frameworks, red-teaming exercises, and design heuristics drawn directly from our practitioner work, and explore how products can be built better for young users from the ground up. Vibe coders welcome; just know that you will be reviewed for your product resilience and will still go through code review.
Writing / Editorial. Support Vys's public-facing communications, including the Quire newsletter, LinkedIn content, and contributions to research reports. Editorial interns draft, edit, and fact-check pieces; learn how to translate technical material into accessible writing; and help shape how Vys reaches journalists, policymakers, and the broader public.
